Issaquah Special Needs Group, November 13, 2012 7-8:30
Have you ever wondered if changes in your child’s behavior
is more than “just a phase?” Is your child suddenly spending more time in the office
or are you getting calls from the school’s nurse informing you that your child is in the
health room yet again with a stomach ache? Has your child become more withdrawn, refusing to participate in group work, or refusing to go to school altogether?
Please join us for our November meeting as we discuss psychological evaluations. Learn what tests are used and what they tell us about the child. Learn the difference between an evaluation conducted through the public school system and a private evaluator. Most importantly, learn how the results are used to determine a diagnosis and how that relates to accommodations received through a 504 plan or an IEP.

Below is a resource for Aspring Youth, Social Skills Groups for Fall, 2012.
I hope this finds you well and that you’re off to a good start with the new school year. I’d like to formally welcome Kathy Harrison, our new admissions director. She will be enrolling families and answering all logistical questions for new families. My lead group facilitators and I will still be responsible for assessing group fit, parent/professional consultation and all other clinical aspects of our programs.
Fall Social Skills Groups are filling quickly. Through our assessment meetings over the next few weeks, we determine proper group fit based on age, development and areas of interest. Groups begin in late September and run for 10 weeks, covering relevant social skills topics through our curriculum. We back these topics with experiential games and activities to help group members practice their new skills. Parents receive in-person and phone-based feedback and we are also always available for consultation with providers and teachers. In addition to our age-based groups, we offer theme-based groups with embedded social learning: Comedy/Theater Improv, Indoor Rock Climbing, Dungeons and Dragons, Building/Inventing and Video Production.
As part of our social skills groups, we also offer free weekend ‘social nights out’, where group members get to build friendships, experience community and have a lot of fun in a more informal group setting (bowling night, movie night, game night, comedy improv/video production festival).
The group listings for our Seattle, Kirkland, Bellevue, Redmond and West Seattle fall groups can be found on our new website:

We’re looking forward to a great 2012/2013 and we will have some upcoming free CEU/clock hour trainings on the young adult transition and also on neuro-plasticity. Informational flyers will coming soon.
